WHO TO REFER

Referrals

I am happy to see patients with any knee condition, including both acute injuries and longstanding knee problems.

You are welcome to refer patients for:

  • assessment or confirmation of a diagnosis

  • advice regarding non-operative treatment

  • a surgical opinion

  • a second opinion

  • review of an acute knee injury

  • ongoing knee pain where the diagnosis remains uncertain

Patients do not need to have exhausted non-operative treatment before referral, and you do not need to be certain of the diagnosis before referring. I am happy to assess patients with undifferentiated knee pain and arrange further investigations where required.

Insurance Coverage

  • Privately insured patients

  • Workcover

  • CTP

  • DVA

  • Self funded patient (Please note that self-funded surgery incurs additional out-of-pocket costs)

Please note in your referral if the patient is a medical healthcare provider or an immediate family member.

KNEE FOCUS

Conditions I manage

My practice has a subspecialty focus on knee conditions across both adults and children. This includes:

  • Sports and ligament injuries
ACL tears and other ligament injuries, meniscal injuries, patellar instability and cartilage injuries.

  • Degenerative conditions
Knee osteoarthritis, including assessment for non-operative treatment, partial knee replacement and total knee replacement.

  • Paediatric and adolescent knee conditions
Including sports injuries, patellofemoral conditions and osteochondritis dissecans.

  • Other knee conditions
Including tendon injuries, fractures around the knee and other causes of knee pain.

If you are unsure whether a particular knee problem is appropriate for referral, please feel free to contact me.

IMAGING

Imaging prior to referral

Additional imaging is not required before referral.

In many cases, clinical assessment helps determine which investigations are most appropriate, and I am happy to arrange any imaging the patient may require.

As a general guide:

  • Suspected osteoarthritis: weight-bearing knee X-rays are generally helpful.

  • Suspected meniscal, ligament or cartilage injury: MRI is usually helpful.
